How to Crop Images for Instagram

Other Instagram Sizes to Know

  • Portrait Post (1080x1350): The 4:5 ratio takes up more screen space in the feed than a square post, which can increase engagement. Crop your image to 1080x1080 here, then use the Aspect Ratio Crop tool with 4:5 for portrait posts.
  • Landscape Post (1080x566): The 1.91:1 ratio is supported but displays smaller in the feed. Square or portrait generally performs better.
  • Reels Thumbnail: Reels use the same 9:16 (1080x1920) as Stories. The thumbnail shown on your profile grid is cropped to square from the center.
  • Carousel Posts: Each slide in a carousel can be 1080x1080 (square) or 1080x1350 (portrait). All slides in one carousel must use the same aspect ratio.
